Hi.

Welcome to Make 1,2 - a space for reviews about albums, songs and artists who are changing the way we think about society today.

Out

Out

The first track I knew needed to be in this playlist was the Arca-produced "Onanon" off of Kelela's impressive debut album. It's his most refined production to date, managing to create a tension between dark and light. But it Baths' "Out" that really made this week possible: a psychedelic double entendre going out partying and coming out as a gay, which was a perfect ode to National Coming Out Day that happened this week. Surprises this week were: Shamir's lo-fi exploration of the boundaries that straight men don't have; an infectious house track "001B1" by a ghost collective called Apparel Wax out of London that anonymously collects dance and, of course, H.E.R., the mysterious R&B singer with two EPs that managed to sell out a nationwide tour. Even Kaytranada is featured producing a song. Can you guess which one it is?
