What a year for music this has been! Even though 2017 is starting to wind down with releases, we continue to get surprising gem after surprising gem. This week leads with one such gem, part of the Everything is Recorded project, featuring Syd and Sampha, whose voices are rendered fuzzed out as they sing through desire. I also continue to ride the St. Vincent train, featuring "Savior," perhaps her most overtly sexual song that critiques the sexual subjugation of women at an apropos moment, and of course had to feature Fever Ray's wild electronic return whose chorus is all about having fun. I called this particular playlist "Deeper" because it is also about the production and textural aspects of songs: from the glossy and expensive Jessie Ware track to the traditional African instrumentation of Kokoko! from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
