As the music season begins to wind down, there are still an abundance of tracks from new releases and singles to choose from. One of the exciting surprises this week was Ssion's track "Comeback," which helped anchor this playlist. "I always knew you would come back, come back to me," he sings in a playfully upbeat pop-banger that devolves a bit into post-punk noise by the end. It's both a comeback and an ode to a love lost. To open the album Björk's "Arisen My Senses" is a fresh introduction into the beginnings of her Utopia: Icelandic bird sounds, flutes and propulsive beat clicks open up your mind to a new kind of music making. The start of this playlist, however, is the remix of Sufjan Steven's "Fourth of July." Though already a devastating song, the inclusion of pulsing electronics and electronic whirrs only add to a sense of a loss and solidify Sufjan's place for me as an Arthur Russell of his generation.
