Last week's playlist was devoted to all things feminist and was one of the more lively playlists I've made. This week I wanted to layer in some darker, more serious tracks, though there's playful center of the playlist, guided by a surprise single from NAO, Leikeli47's fire Brooklyn bars, and work by A2 and IAMDDB across the pond. Of all of the tracks on this album, the most memorable is by Pierre Kwenders, a Congolese-Canadian musician whose work spans languages and global sounds to emerge decidedly futuristic. Perhaps the most difficult choice was which song to led things with. Ultimately, James Blake's haunting vocals in a Mount Kimbie produced track seem to cut through the darkness and create light.
