Top Music Videos - 2018
The music video has been the essential companion to singles for decades. Even though the impact and influence of music videos in the post-MTV age has diminished, 2018 proved that artists were willing to take risks and invest in visual storytelling. Janelle Monáe and Tierra Whack both created full length visual albums and, as such, top this list for their dedication and imagination. Moses Sumney created a hauntingly beautiful, and incredibly well shot, companion to last year’s Quarrel while Young Fathers brought out the surreal in a pint-sized reimagining of the world’s dictators. Videos by The Carters and Ariana Grande also proved that the power of social media can create music videos that spawn endless GIFs and memes.
