This week's playlist is driven by strong female musicians, many of them emerging artists within their respective genres (though some are more well established). This was a coincidence, though it's becoming increasingly clear that the music women have created so far, from a singles perspective, vastly outweighs what men have been making. Perhaps this speaks to the impassioned #MeToo moment, where women are demanding to be loved, respected and no longer subject to violence. Whatever the case, I'm particularly excited by the artists who make this week's playlist up. I opened with Snail Mail's "Pristine," a gorgeous alt-rock song that conjures up the magic of Waxahatchee, among others. Things transition from pop to R&B to disco country, spinning between various genres throughout. But all of these songs are bound together by what I consider as a desire to be seen and recognized fully.
