Dolly Parton

Dolly Parton

The moment you fall into love with Dolly is a moment that you'll never be able to fall out of. Though country music is one of my least listened to musical dramas, I make a few exceptions and Dolly Parton is one of the biggest ones. Not only has she had a four decades long prolific career but songs like 9 to 5, Jolene and Touch Your Woman have become crossover staples in our musical lexicon. When I saw Dolly two summers back, it was impressive to see a woman in her mid-70s do a two hour concert and play about ten different instruments during the process. But Dolly's greatest success, I think, is in her ability to take three minutes or less a craft a wholly engaging, immediately emotionally resonant story every single time. It's too hard just to pick 15 Dolly songs, so this month there are 20 tracks to choose from - spanning from the 1960s to 2010s and everywhere in between.
