Hi.

Welcome to Make 1,2 - a space for reviews about albums, songs and artists who are changing the way we think about society today.

Nice For What

Nice For What

This week's playlist is a celebration to springtime in all its glory that builds on what has been an explosive, high caliber two weeks of releases, including a surprisingly good Drake single (that samples Big Freedia and Lauryn Hill). I decided to start things out with Empress Of's bilingual R&B song about finding trust in a relationship and try to build up the energy for the crescendo that reaches its peak around Azealia Bank's best song since "212," where she has increasingly shed her hip hop sound for 90s era club hits. The back half of the playlist soars away on Kali Uchi's effortless vocals in "Flight 22" and cycles through various expressions of feminist power. All in all, it finally seems like new life and a new outlook are here and this playlist tries to build on that positivity that builds around springtime.
