Hi.

Welcome to Make 1,2 - a space for reviews about albums, songs and artists who are changing the way we think about society today.

Pick Up

Pick Up

This is a playlist that largely celebrates and puts together my favorites in conversation. But that's because these artists are continuing to deliver exciting and impassioned music across a range of genres. Opening the playlist is Perera Elsewhere. Her genre is pretty unclassifiable but she manages to blend sinister electronic beats with an R&B sensibility. Let's Eat Grandma once again pairs up with producer SOPHIE to deliver cutting edge, vibrant pop. In the middle, the playlist finds its groovy center, moving from Alyss to LION BABE to the glittery, understated "Pick Up" by DJ Koze. On the latter half of the playlist, I decided to do something I rarely do: place a nearly 10 minute song in the mix. Kamasi Washington's "Fists of Fury" was just too good to pass up: it's one of his most epic, fire and brimstone anthems yet that manages to feel topic and future-leaning all at once. And then finally: how can you resist adding MorMor, Janelle Monáe and Lykke Li into the mix?
