Singles Club: April '18
What a month of music it has! Everything suddenly exploded and oh how excited I have been! Though she came in at the last minute, Janelle Monáe was the only one that managed to outdo Azealia Banks' best song of her career. From there, of course Kali Uchis dominated with her effortless Latin-infused R&B, Kacey Musgraves pushed the boundaries of country, cleverly using autotune and Cardi B's final track on her album in collaboration with SZA is the ultimate fuckboi album. There were initially about 40 songs on this list, so paring it down to 20 was a bit of task. But what I valued this month was clarity of sound, regardless of genre, and found that simplicity sometimes was stronger than doing too much, as in the case of DJ Koze's haunting looping electronic beats. Here's to an equally exciting May!
