Everyone else should be glad that "Missing U" isn't officially released yet so it would be over for everyone in July. Drake's "In My Feelings" was an early contender for song of the month but a string of strong releases by Blood Orange (a surprise!), The Internet (not a surprise but definitely their most polished work yet), Buddy (another suprise!), and Lotic (a newcomer) really shook things up in the top five. The rest of the list that follows spans genres though I think it's one of the first times this year where R&B, hip hop and diasporic sounds have dominated, which has been a welcome departure from the often times weaker trap albums of 2018 (so far, at least). Overall, the year is progressing as a difficult one to judge. With so many genres represented and so many talented new artists, the year end list is anyone's game.
