The volume and quality of singles this month has been hard to navigate - and it’s been fiercely competitive as well. From the expansive soundscapes of Yves Tumor to KAYTRANADA remixing at his absolute best, there’s also a diversity of sonic styles on display. The top 10 features some longtime favorites like Nao, Noname and Róisín Murphy, but it also features newly beloved singers: like Julia Holter and her haunting, sparse melodies to Troye Sivan’s mature, emotionally open balladry about a Grindr hookup. The top spot for the month, however, was a no brainer. Robyn surprise dropped her latest single on Wednesday and it is already one of my favorites for the year - and the best produced song she has ever made. The floating but intricate sounds allow her voice to soar in a demure way. She is the master of not giving everything to you. The mysterious, unfulfilled desire is what makes her so alluring.
